This study aimed to produce and nutritionally characterize the ostrich offal meal, and to evaluate its digestible value for Nile tilapia. The relevance of the study lies in the possibility of using by-products from the food industry as alternative food for animals. For this, chemical and microbiological analyses were performed, as well as digestibility trial in the meal produced with ostrich offal for Nile tilapia. The levels found for protein, lipids, gross energy and minerals were 71.08%, 16.54%, 5115 kcal kg-1 and 5.62%, respectively. Microbiological analysis showed absence of Salmonella spp. in the product. The digestibility of protein was 90.41%, and of energy was 77.65%, while the phosphorus availability was 80.18%. Therefore, the ostrich offal meal... |

The influence of the replacement of soybean meal by crambe crushed in concentrated supplement at proportions 0, 5, 10, 15%, on the performance and carcass traits of grazing cows is assessed. Within a completely randomized design, twenty Nellore cows, fed on Brachiaria humidicola, were supplemented during the rain-drought transition period and monitored with regard to weight and body conditions every 28 days. Total forage mass and percentages of leaf, stem and senescent material were quantified in loco. The estimation of forage quality consumed by animals was performed by the simulated grazing method. There were no significant differences between the levels of inclusion of crambe crushed on animal performance or carcass characteristics. Replacement did not... |

This experiment was conducted at Unesp feedlot facility, campus of Botucatu, and aimed to evaluate the supplementation of D and E vitamins on animal performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of yearling bulls finished in feedlot. Thirty-six 7-mo-old yearling bulls, 18 Nellore (NEL) and 18 Canchim (CAC), with average initial body weight of 234.53 ± 22.15 and 248.13 ± 34.67 kg, respectively, were fed for 126 days. Nine NEL and nine CAC yearling bulls were daily supplemented with 1300 IU of vitamin E and 7.5 x 106 IU of vitamin D3 for 67 days and 10 days before slaughter, respectively. One day before slaughter, blood samples were collected for evaluation of Ca concentration. After chilling, Longissimus muscle (LM) samples were collected for... |

Effects on diets with reduction of crude protein and methionine + cystine (RCP) and protease supplementation (PRO) for laying hens at different ages and their influence on the internal quality of eggs at different conditions (STO) and storage times (TM) are evaluated. Four hundred and twenty eggs from commercial Hy-Line W36 laying hens collected at 32, 44 and 58 weeks of age were used. Experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme 3 x 2 x 2 x 2: RCP (control, enhancement of one and two times the enzyme protease), PRO (with and without protease), STO (room temperature and refrigerated) and TM (14 and 28 days), with seven replications of one egg per experimental unit. The factorial scheme 3 x 2 x 2 was used at 58 weeks of age, because... |

The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance, ingestive behavior and carcass traits of crossbred Dorper x Santa Inês lambs fed rations containing soybean cake. Twenty-four lambs (4 months of age and 24.3 ± 3.1 kg BW) were used in a completely randomized design with four treatments and six replicates. Treatments were the inclusion of 50, 100 or 150 g kg-1 of soybean cake in the ration, on a DM basis, and a control diet without this ingredient. Rations were offered ad libitum for 75 days and the lambs were slaughtered at 35 to 40 kg BW. Dry matter intake reduced linearly and the average daily gain had a quadratic response to the soybean cake levels, also decreasing with the addition of this ingredient. The time spent feeding increased and the idle... |

Current study evaluated the inclusion of protected fat and different levels of crude protein (CP) in the diet of crossbreed cows in early lactation. Twelve cows were distributed in a 4 x 4 factorial design, with four treatments (12 or 16% CP, with or without MEGALAC-E®). Statistical analyzes with ANOVA and Pearson’s linear correlation procedures were performed. Protected fat did not affect intake of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) (p > 0.05). Increased CP raised consumption of CP and EE and decreased the non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC; p <0.05). Protected fat increased (p <0.05) the digestibility of DM, OM, CP and ashes in the lower protein content. CP increase raised the level of blood and urinary urea (p < 0.05). There was no difference... |
